In brief

A 4* luxury hotel located between New Street and Stephenson Street. Part of the Hortons Estate. Built between 1867 and 1875 as the Midland Hotel. It is the oldest surviving hotel next to Birmingham New Street Station. It was fully restored in 2022.

A luxury 4* hotel close to Birmingham New Street Station and Bullring & Grand Central Birmingham.

Located between New Street and Stephenson Street (next to the former Midland Bank building now occupied by Apple).

Formerly known as the Midland Hotel.

Built as a hotel and offices between 1867 and 1875 for Isaac Horton and designed by Thomson Plevins.

Two blocks flanking the former Burlington Passage, made the hotel entrance c. 1994, with obtrusive vertical signs.

The scale reflects its important location by the original entrance to New Street Station.

Stephenson Street was closed to buses in 2012, this led to the original Midland Metro extension being built to the top of the road. Grand Central Tram Stop opened outside of The Burlington Hotel in 2016 (next to Birmingham New Street Station). The extension was extended to Westside twice from here between 2017 and 2022.

The hotel was extensively restored during 2022, including restoring the facade on New Street.

Grand Central Tram Stop

The original Midland Metro Extension was built from Birmingham Snow Hill to Birmingham New Street between 2012 and 2016. Grand Central Tram Stop opened outside of The Burlington Hotel by the summer of 2016. The line was later extended between 2017 and 2019 towards Centenary Square (Library Tram Stop), and between 2019 and 2022 towards Hagley Road in Edgbaston (Edgbaston Village Tram Stop).

Bacchus Bar

This bar is in the basement of the Burlington Arcade, and can be reached by either the New Street or Stephenson Street entrances to the hotel.

Grand Central Kitchen

This cafe opened on Stephenson Street, in one of the retail units of The Burlington Hotel, by at least the spring of 2016. This was ahead of the opening of Grand Central Tram Stop in the summer of 2016, and is opposite Birmingham New Street Station.

Tonight Josephine

This late night venue, opened in one of the retail units of The Burlington Hotel in late 2020 or early 2021 on Stephenson Street. You will usually see hen parties outside of here.
